Let's Serve God's Heart for the Nations

Let’s Serve God’s Heart for the Nations

Let’s understand clearly something true about the God we worship and serve. He has a global heart. He has a love and plan for the nations of the world. He always has. And His plan will come to fruition in His perfect timing. And we get to be part of that plan.

Here is biblical support for this contention from both the Old and New Testament. Please note the bolded phrases:

Genesis 12:1-3. 1 “Go forth from your country, And from your relatives And from your father’s house, To the land which I will show you; 2 And I will make you a great nation, And I will bless you, And make your name great; And so you shall be a blessing; 3 And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse.  And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.”

Comment: Abraham, the patriarch of Israel, was chosen intentionally as the means of blessing all the nations of the earth. This would ultimately be brought about by Jesus the Jewish Messiah.

Isaiah 49:5-65 And now says the Lord, who formed Me from the womb to be His Servant, to bring Jacob back to Him, so that Israel might be gathered to Him (For I am honored in the sight of the Lord, and My God is My strength), 6 He says, “It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also make You a light of the nations so that My salvation may reach to the end of the earth.”

Comment: This is a profound prediction of the birth, person, and purpose of the coming of Jesus. Most of the “nations” were not yet formed at the writing of this prophetic word. Imagine that!

Mark 11:17. And He began to teach and say to them, “Is it not written, ‘MY HOUSE SHALL BE CALLED A HOUSE OF PRAYER FOR ALL THE NATIONS’?

Comment: A double meaning here. Prayer was to go forth for all the nations. And all the nations of the earth would be welcome to come to the Jerusalem temple to pray – in the “Court of the Gentiles.”

Matthew 28:18-20. 18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.  19 ” Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Comment: The Great Commission of a Global Commission. We have the authority of Jesus, and the abiding presence of Jesus, to accomplish this. He is caring for the nations through us.

Revelation 7:9-119 After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could count, from every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, and palm branches were in their hands; 10 and they cry out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.”

Comment: This is the “end Game” of the Bible. “An authentic vision of Jesus always includes His heart for the nations.” (Brian Post, ELCI) Be encouraged. A world-wide harvest in underway today! We at Clearwater get to be part of God’s unfolding kingdom expansion to the nations.
