Last Sunday, I spoke about the beauty of walking with God. From Genesis to Revelation, we saw God’s heart and intention in creating us for loving fellowship with Him. Adam knew the joy of walking with God in the cool of the day. And God’s culminating delight is to dwell with his people in the kingdom and eternity.
We saw how it is possible for us to return by faith to walk with God today. Enoch was our example. Enoch’s spiritual garden walk with God was by faith, while Adam walked by sight in a garden God prepared to thrill him.
Many have asked, “Could I have a copy of your notes?” Yes. Just email me and ask (email@example.com) and I will attach a copy back to you.
The primary value of Enoch’s walk by faith with God is stated in Hebrews 11:5. By faith Enoch was taken up so that he would not see death; AND HE WAS NOT FOUND BECAUSE GOD TOOK HIM UP; for he obtained the witness that before his being taken up he was pleasing to God. This is huge! To fulfill the very desire of God in creating us for His glory and pleasure – he did it! Enoch responded to the loving presence of God in a spiritual intimacy that pleased God – so much, in fact, that God just took him into His eternal presence. Wow!
Let’s go deeper. There is a second value of Enoch’s walk with God is that the man of God entered the realm of revelation, the realm of the prophetic. Jude, in bringing indictment against a wayward generation in the 1st Century, cited the prophetic ministry of Enoch as applying to his day and ours. Here is how Jude quotes Enoch in Jude 14-15 in the Living Translation:
14 Enoch, who lived seven generations after Adam, knew about these men and said this about them: “See, the Lord is coming with millions of his holy ones. 15 He will bring the people of the world before him in judgment, to receive just punishment and to prove the terrible things they have done in rebellion against God, revealing all they have said against him.”
To walk with God in the cool of your day opens the way for God to speak His heart to you. Some of what you hear His Spirit impressing on your thoughts will encourage your heart. And expect that some of what God shares with you will break your heart – for what breaks God’s heart. Accept both as part of your friendship with God, and act in obedience as He directs.
Enoch did. He was obedient to speak the truth as God was revealing it to him. He had the courage to stand up against a rebellion generation, and counter the lies they were saying “against Him.” Clearly, Enoch has prophetic insight into the heart of God. That pleased Him.
Let me encourage you to walk with God in the cool of the day. This is the sure pathway to pleasing God. And it is the sure pathway to achieving God’s highest purpose for your life.
